The newer C5 got even stiffer suspension. Still comfy, but nowhere near the CX or XM or even C5 I, more like a quality german car with good springs. Probably why they ended hydraulic suspension. I've never driven automatic or petrol C5, only manual diesel and I love them, so I can't really answer the rest of your questions..
